I feel that Ayaan’s renouncing Islam and conversion to Christianity both came from observing the actions of the believers of both faiths. If you read the actual books, you will find that there is no death penalty for apostasy in kuran itself and many of the extremist and nasty actions by “muslims” stem from the senseless belief in the hadiths instead of the kuran. Heck, most muslims don’t even know what is written in kuran even though many have actually memorised the whole book as they are trained to read the book in a language that they don’t understand at all. So they pronounce the words without even understanding what they mean. Fascinating isnt it? And almost everyone of them value hadiths just as much they value kuran. They are like mindless herds of sheeps following whatever mullahs feed them out of their own dirty fantasies and validating with hadiths. On that note, its actually hadiths that are the roots of all evils in islamic religion and should be discarded and set aside just like christians did the old testament (and btw, unlike kuran, old testament actually talks about punishment of apostates which includes execution: Deuteronomy 13:6-9, Deuteronomy 17:3-5, Chronicles 15:13)- in many aspects, it competes with the nastiness and evil of hadiths. The problem is that the muslims took hadiths too seriously whereas the christians realised that there was something wrong with the old testament so they decided to ignore it altogether to keep up with the needs of the society today. And kudos to them for doing that. Muslims need reformation and I think a good start would be to just try and stick to what is written in kuran only and eventually using it as a source of spiritual guidance and not a law that regulates societies. But I doubt we will see that day anytime soon.
